Austrian Bronze Stork Candelabra Cold Painted Aesthetic Arts Crafts Crane h26cm

Period/Style : Aesthetic period. Arts & Crafts.

Origin :  Austrian or possibly French.

Decoration : cold painted bronze. Japonisme aesthetics design. Japanese crane (tsuru) heron, feeding amongst foliage on detailed handled Fan. The two enclosed flower tops with hold a spike for a candle and the centre a clear candle holder to alternate between a candlestick or candelabra.

 

Inspired by the productions of Meiji Japan, which during this period was opening up to the rest of the world, Western artists, particularly Austrian and French, were inspired by them. The movement known as “Japonisme” emerged from this inspiration, and from it, Art Nouveau developed.

 

Similar models are on display at the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.

 

Size :  h26cm

 

Condition : the centre candlestick has a small hole which maybe have been an early electric convert, as shown this does only mildly effect the display. Minor ground wears as standard. As shown, displays very well. Old dealer label to base.
